Our 10 year anniversary continues to shine and surprise and the event that we did for DC Design Week’s opening party was nothing short of both.

Much appreciated to DC Design Week for bringing us back, props to everyone who attended, and we have to give a super strong shout-out and thank you to Kojo Boateng for all of the heavy lifting to make this happen.

**Our 10 year anniversary run has been everything that we hoped and planned for and things are only picking up!

That being said, we’re proud to present CAN I KICK IT? featuring KILL BILL Vol. 1 as the debut event of the Wu-Tang Clan x Eaton Workshop Rise Above Residency.

This CIKI? will take place next Wed Sept 22nd at Eaton Workshop’s Eaton Cinema and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be back the following Wed, Sept 29th, conducting a CIKI? screening of KILL BILL Vol. 2.  Space at Eaton Cinema is limited so reserve your seats now.

SHAOLIN JAZZ L!VE at Wild Days / Recap

Last Weds was definitely a vibe.

It felt great conducting SHAOLIN JAZZ L!VE, which we haven’t done in a minute, and judging by how many came of you came and the responses for those who attended that energy was accepted and given back.

We’d like to thank Eaton Workshop and Wild Days for hosting.  And, as always, a huge big-ups to our brothers Sound of the City for blowing the roof off!

CAN I KICK IT? – GMU present BLACK PANTHER / 9.17.21                                                                                                                                                                                              

Join us for a special edition of CAN I KICK IT? featuring the now legendary Marvel Studios film Black Panther, Friday, September 17th on the campus of George Mason University as a apart of their Visiting Filmmakers Series.

The event is free and open to the public, via registration, and will take place outdoors on GMU’s Mason Pond Lawn to help ensure social distancing.

Limited seating will be provided, otherwise guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets Seating begins at 7:30 PM, a performance by GMU’s Green Machine will start at 7:45 PM, and we’ll be starting the movie at 8:30 PM.

SHAOLIN JAZZ x DCDW Album Cover Design Contest                                                Calling all creatives! To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of SHAOLIN JAZZ and our first mixtape: “SHAOLIN JAZZ The 37th Chamber,” we’re partnering with DC Design Week to launch a very exciting contest.

And in the spirit of our anniversary we’ll be conducting our second SHAOLIN JAZZ Album Cover Design Contest and if you recall our first one, back in 2011, we were fortunate enough to have received 37 (yes, 37) amazing entries from talented designers from around the world.

 

Originally released in 2011 by Gerald Watson and DJ 2-Tone Jones – “SHAOLIN JAZZ The 37th Chamber” is a jazz and hip-hop infused collection of songs that features Wu Tang Clan acappellas that are cleverly fused with instrumentals from select jazz greats. And to celebrate our 10 year anniversary we’re asking for your creative talents.

Winners will receive SHAOLIN JAZZ merchandise, DC Design Week swag, and iconic streetwear brand UNDEFEATED.

The deadline for submissions is Friday September 17, 2021, winners will be announced on Friday October 1st, and a select number of submissions will be exhibited alongside works from our design archive in the DC Design Week 2021 Launch Party and Pop-Up Exhibition celebrating our 10 years.

CANCELED – CAN I KICK IT? – Downtown Summer Flicks / Starship Troopers

We sincerely regret that we have to cancel our final screening tonight due to inclement weather.

We more than appreciate everyone who has attended any of our events in this series, especially given all that’s been happening with COVID.

We truly had a good time getting back out there and hanging out with familiar faces and making new friends.

Thank you again to our partner @downtowndcbid for making this happen and thank you to our host @nationalbuildingmuseum for welcoming us into their space.

And HUGE SHOUTS to our comrade @jgyszn for all of his help with our the setup and holding down our merch table.
